Skateboarding
photographs taken in the late 1970's.
The photos of myself were taken by my younger brother, David.
The late 1970's were pretty heavy for skateboarding. A lot of new
equipment design advances were being made. The things you see on
X-Games and moves by professional skateboarders, were being slowly
developed during these times. "Getting Air" was a pretty
new concept. As equipment evolved, so did the abilities of the riders.
With better wheels, bearings and materials for the decks, the rider
could push their ability to the edge, where it had not been possible
before.
These photos are of a time when the level of the sport had not yet
reached mass appeal and ingrained in the culture of our society.
We were just a bunch of inland surfers pushing too hard!
